Austin small business owners welcome SXSW with open arms

by Ray Hayes

2017 is the 31st anniversary of South By Southwest (SXSW), the numbers aren’t in yet as to how many attended but it has been estimated to be around 87,000. The annual festival brings together people from across the country to enjoy music and technology festivities in Austin, TX.  According to CNBC, “the conference brought $325.3 million into the Austin economy.”

Many merchants in the area were anticipating about a tenth of annual revenues from the festival. The main recipients of the SXSW audience were the businesses within walking distance of the conference. Unfortunately for those businesses that were further away from the conference, traffic is slower than usual.
