Have you ever seen Google’s headquarters in California? The office is basically a small town that houses some of the greatest minds in technology. In an effort to expand the company’s influence, Google is now looking to impact diversity. To do that, the tech giant is connecting with the city of Oakland to grow diversity in tech.
According to the great folks from Fast Company, Google new, “lab–a 1,500-square foot space across from Oakland’s Fruitvale BART station–is particularly designed to reach black and Latino students, in 8th to 10th grades, about half of whom don’t have access to computer science classes in school.”
One of the main reasons for the lack of diversity in tech is the fact that minorities sometimes have limited access to technology. Therefore, with the new lab in Oakland teenagers will now be able to access a variety of things in the field of tech including, building robots, coding, 3D design, etc.
Experience provides opportunity and Google truly understands this and that is why the Google is ahead of the curve.
