Are you aware that snapchat is only for rich people? Yes, rich people and especially not for poor countries like India and Spain. So if you’re not rich, I can rightfully assert that Snapchat is not for you…..
Let me make one thing clear, this is not a statement that I personally made or agree with, however, Evan Spiegel, chief executive of Snap, allegedly made these comments in 2015. The statements have been gaining traction recently, after a former employee of Snap filed suit against the company.
According to Variety, Spiegel’s alleged comments about Snapchat include the following; “This app is only for rich people. I don’t want to expand into poor countries like India and Spain,” Similar to United Airlines, Snap is now facing a hashtag attack and tons of backlash in India.
Many Indian users of Snap have taken to social media sites urging users to uninstall the app. The reason this could be bad for the company is due to the fact that India is home to one of the world’s largest smartphone populations. According to Asian Review, “Hashtags #UninstallSnapchat and #BoycottSnapchat have been trending on Twitter since Saturday, and the app has been showered with one-star ratings in the Google and Apple stores.” Even if the allegations are untrue, the Snap brand is suffering in one of the world’s fastest growing economies.
For the record, a Snapchat spokesperson have dismissed the allegations. “Obviously, Snapchat is for everyone! It’s available worldwide to download for free. Those words were written by a disgruntled former employee. We are grateful to our Snapchat community in India and around the world.” I hope things are resolved because Snapchat should be for everyone no matter who you are.
